SAPPHIRE

The glass on our watch is cut from lab grown sapphires.  Sapphire is the third hardest mineral on Earth only surpassed by Moissanite and Diamond.  This means it is extremely resistant to scratching which is the last thing we want to see on the clean large face of the Pilot watch.

QUARTZ MOVEMENT

Though we strongly admire the craftsmanship and artistry of a well made mechanical movement we chose to use the Miyota Cal. 2415 quartz movement in the Anarchie Pilot for the following reasons:

DURABILITY:

The right knock can throw off timing, tangle a hairspring or even break a rotor axle in an Automatic Movement.  This is not only from the impacts that make you cringe, but something simple like a good golf swing can completely damage a high-end Automatic watch.  You will knock the hands clear off your movement with a hard impact before you damage the timing mechanism of a Quartz Movement, so swing away.

LOW MAINTENANCE:

Quartz movements are set and the only time you have to adjust them is the Date wheel on months with less than 31 days or when your battery runs out every 2-5 years.  An automatic movement needs to be set, wound and kept on a winder when not wearing for any length of time.  Then include the same 31 day/month setting problem and add the need for a full maintenance every 3-5 years.

ACCURACY:

The Quartz Movement that is used in the Anarchie Pilot is accurate to ±20 seconds per month where the best automatics can be off by as much as ±3 minutes a month.

VEGETABLE TANNED LEATHER

Our straps are made from 100% Vegetable Tanned Leather.  Oh, so it's Vegan? No, Vegan branded leathers are usually made from plastic compounds which we try to limit in our products.

Veggie tanned leather is 100% bovine leather that has been processed using plant-based tannins in its tanning process as was done for thousands of years.  This is opposed to the more commercialize process using Chrome in the tanning process.  The later has been only used since the industrial revolution due to its speed and cost savings, but has also been the cause of many tanneries shutting down in the US due to heavy pollution that eventually made its way into the local water tables.

Therefore, vegetable tannins are much better for the environment and leather is a fully natural material which is biodegradable.  We also use only bovine leather as a byproduct of the food industry vs exotic leathers that their meat is a byproduct of the leather production.

SUSTAINABILITY

Each component built into our watch is chosen not only what is best for you the consumer, but what is also good for the environment in addition to the above we also added:

• Titanium internal spacers to avoid any plastic parts used used by most quartz watch manufacturers.
• Optional water-resistant strap which unfortunately is done with plastic fiber woven materials.  Therefore, we teamed up with Tide Ocean Material to ensure it was made from 100% recycled Ocean plastics.
• All paper biodegradable packaging. Packaging seems to last longer then some products nowadays.  Ours is just to get it safely to your hands and maybe be good firestarter when your camping.
